WHAT IS A RARE CAT BREED?
Rare cat breeds are those with the fewest kittens registered each year. Some breeds are rare in one country and numerous in others so for the purposes of this group we have taken an international approach. We have collected and collated breed registration data from the main cat registries in the world and looked at the combined data to identify breeds with fewer than 500 annual registrations. There are certain challenges common to people working to preserve, conserve and improve rare breeds and this group aims to provide a mutual support network and a way to help to promote these wonderful breeds of cat that deserve to be better known.
